Nevertheless Kyrping is an old connecting point in the traffic from Stordalen and Litledalen to the rural settlements on the north side of the fjord. But most of all Kyrping was centrally situated on the main road eastwards towards Røldal, through Stordalen and in front of the farm Øyno. From Bergen and the fjord settlements to the north came those going on a pilgrimage to the Midsummer’s celebrations in Røldal, and in later times – to the Røldal market.
Kyrping has a good harbour. From older times the farmers at upper and lower Sævareid had their boathouses here, but people from Etne also made use of the shipping lane from Kyrping.
