In pre-history bogs rich in iron were an important resource for the farm and the community. Bog iron was dug out of the bog, dried and melted to iron in a blow-oven. The raw product was called blow-iron that was worked thin to sheet iron, before being made into tools or weapons. A bundle of hidden, flat-worked, 30 centimetre long iron pieces (bars), with a loop at the end, was found deep in the riverbed at Rambjørg. The iron bars are probably from Viking times. Did the owner forget about his iron?
