Grytøyrelva

A WELL-ACCOMMODATED RIVER

Right across Lake Røldalsvatnet from Håraneset, clearly visible from the main highway, there is a canyon with a river in it that slopes steadily down toward the water. Over thousands of years, loose bedrock and a lot of water has helped the Grytøyrelva river carve out a gentle river bed without waterfalls, all the way down to the more deeply cut Lake Røldalsvatnet. Thus, the river has accommodated itself to the level of the water. On its way down the river runs through a large canyon, Grytøyrjuvet, which is 150–200 metres deep at its deepest.
