Aamund K. Bu (1872-1944), farmer, local historian, inventor and genealogical researcher, was one of those who created Hardanger rural museum in 1911, but his passion for history was so great that he also created his own collections at BU. Two smokehouses and a storehouse on stilts from the 1700s were placed openly and agreeably facing the fjord, together with two fireproof basements, which, among other things house a large book collection and a unique collection of “chest pieces”, a colourful part of the Hardanger costume. In 1979 Hardanger Folk Museum took over the running of this museum, which is an extensive “cabinet of cultural history”.
