Sogn og Fjordane central county hospital is located at Via in Førde, and it also serves as a local hospital for more than half of the county population. It was, until the state took over the management of the hospital, the workplace with the highest number of jobs in the county and was the largest building owned by the county, built after an unusually bitter political controversy.
The new hospital was built on the farm Via in Førde. The building was started in 1975, and the hospital was finished in the autumn of 1979. It is in ten storeys, nine above ground level.
